It is now tax season, and many people are turning to Social Media for reviews on the best tax programs and tax preparation services. Interestingly, I do not see many tax services taking advantage of social media to market their products. With so many companies trying to be heard, I am very surprised that H&R Block and Intuit’s Turbotax are not leveraging trending topics on Twitter.
One of the more interesting tax return services available this year is the use of the smartphone. One of the particularly interesting aspects this tax season that I have seen is Intuit’s Turbotax Snaptax. With this application, found on the Android Market, you are able to take a picture of your W-2, answer questions about the picture, and e-file your 2011 tax return directly from your phone.
It will be interesting to see how the 2011 tax season turns out in regards to marketing. I know that I’ve seen many Turbotax and H&R Block commercials on the television. I believe both companies would benefit from a social aspect- maybe including a #taxes2011 hashtag or a #taxes4free hashtag. Let me know in the comments how you are preparing your taxes for 2011!
